Established in 1969, Mathabhanga College is one of the oldest institutes in the rural part of Cooch Behar district. Most of the students coming to this institute are from needy farmers or daily-wage families. Girls in this area are married early due to socio-economic problems and the area is dominated by Schedule Cast and Minority Community students of economically poor backgrounds. So our aim is to provide them with a good academic background, infrastructure, a stress-free environment, free hand to do any type of extracurricular activities like participation in NSS, NCC and sports and cultural programs etc.

Mathabhanga College offers graduation in the Arts, Science and Commerce discipline. Since there are few schools around Mathabhanga town with Science and Commerce facilities, the number of students in the Science and Commerce discipline is moderate compared to the Arts discipline.

Mathabhanga College was accredited by NAAC with Grade C+ on 10th February 2007. During the last few years after completion of Cycle I accreditation by the NAAC, Mathabhanga College has made substantial progress both in qualitative as well as quantitative terms in providing quality education. The College introduced BSc Honours in Chemistry and Physics and Geography was introduced as a subject in 2016. It has also introduced various Skill development programmes in collaboration with ICA (2019) and Anudip Foundation (2021). For the empowerment of girl students, it has also introduced a beautician course (from 2109). Among the nearby colleges, Mathabhanga College provides the lowest course fee for education and it has also provided waiver of course fees.
