Institutional Distinctive
Established in 1969, Mathabhanga College is one of the oldest institutes in the rural part of Cooch Behar
district. Most of the students coming to this institute come from needy farmers or daily wage families.
Girls in this area are married early due to socio-economic problems. Girls who marry before age 18 are
more likely to experience domestic violence and less likely to stay in college. They have poorer
economic and health outcomes than their unmarried peers, which are ultimately passed on to their own
children, straining the country’s capacity to provide quality health and education services. So our aim is
to provide them good academic background, infrastructure, stress free environment, free hand to do any
type of extracurricular activities like participation in NSS, NCC and sports and cultural programs etc.
Every year, girls are admitted to Mathabhanga College in greater proportion compared to boys. They
even carry out their education their education even after marriage from the institute.
